I have fond memories of sitting next to my grandmom and watching her sew. I marveled at how the simple pieces of cloth transformed into costumes and quilts with her skilled hands. Her work taught me an invaluable lesson of creativity being a boundless realm. Whether it’s the gentle stroke of a pen on paper by a writer, the artistry of a director bringing a script to life, or my Nana’s whimsical transformations, there is a common thread – the magic of turning ideas into reality.
National Keep Kids Creative Week, from September 24 to 30, is a reminder to cherish and nurture children’s creative spirit. It’s a time for them to tap into their imagination, for in their dreams and doodles is a vibrant and innovative world.
Here are 4 ways to celebrate National Keep Kids Creative Week.
- Channel their inner Picasso! Provide various art supplies and let kids experiment with painting, drawing, or sculpting. Art can be a great way for children to express their thoughts and emotions.
- Share stories! Organize a storytelling session where kids can create and share their tales (hopefully not tattle-tales). This also helps with language skills and critical thinking.
- Turn up the music, and dance like nobody’s watching! Encourage kids to make their own music or dance routines. It’s a great way for them to express themselves and have fun… It might be fun for you too!
- Spark the cosmic creativity! Engage kids in simple science experiments that spark curiosity for the world around them.
