It’s that time again…back to school! Maybe you are dreading getting your child back into the grind of everything – school, sports, activities, homework, repeat. Or maybe you are thrilled to hand your child over to their new teacher and friends and get back into a solid routine. Either way, your child will need (or maybe want) some things to start off the school year right. Check out our ideas below!
School Supplies
This is an obvious, self-explanatory one. Starting off the year with a backpack, some pencils and notebooks is essential. If your child is in middle school and above, it’s a great idea to make sure they have a folder for each class and a notebook for each class to help them stay organized. Highlighters and post-it notes are great tools to have when studying. Having a planner is key so they can record their assignments and refer to it when prioritizing and organizing their workload to complete assignments in a timely manner.
School Supplies Donation
If you are feeling generous, you can buy some extra supplies and donate them to the Mitzvah Circle. They are located in Norristown and accept new school supplies on Thursdays from 9am-3pm. More information can be found on their website.
Any contribution is appreciated and can positively impact the lives of students who aren’t able to get all the supplies they need on their own.
Back to School Books
There are ton of books that can gear your younger elementary child up for success on the first day of school and beyond. The Night Before Series is a huge hit for kids. They serve as a guide for parents to talk to kids about what they might expect at school, so they aren’t in for too many surprises. Kids love them too because they ease their worries, and the rhymes are soothing and enjoyable to listen to.
Back to School Sign
These are incredibly common, as I’m sure you’ve seen all over social media. In addition to being a cute photo opportunity, these signs can be fun to look back at on the last day of school to see how your child has changed and progressed over the past year. There are so many to choose from. Here are a few for some inspiration.
We hope everything you do leading up to the beginning of the school year, helps your child feel confident and ready for a fresh start! That’s the first step in starting off the year right. Then maintain, by making sure to ask your child how school is going (digging a bit deeper, beyond yes or no questions) and help them learn how to keep up with their schoolwork. We hope you have an amazingly successful year!
Wishing you well,
Sarah
