Happy fall! With the temperature dropping and Halloween around the corner, we thought we’d share a few crafts you and your children can enjoy making together. They’re pretty simple and definitely won’t break the bank. So pick a craft or two to make and have fun decorating the house! Then you can enjoy all fall has to offer-sweaters, cooler weather and of course, pumpkin spiced everything.
Mini Monsters
This is a super easy craft for the littlest ones in your family. Save some toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls. Then gather a few supplies to transform those rolls to magnificent monsters. You can use paint, construction paper, markers, tissue paper or even yarn for a mummy look. After you’ve got the base covered, it’s time to make the little monsters! Googly eyes are always a good place to start. Then it’s free range. Your child can add fangs, teeth, horns…anything! If they’re looking for a cute monster instead, feathers, pom poms or glitter may be the way to go. Let their creativity shine because really anything goes!
Halloween Sensory Bottles
Want to get a little less messy but still encourage engaging play? Try making a Halloween sensory bottle. Sensory bottles are great for many reasons. Not only are they beneficial in mesmerizing children and helping them calm down, there are many academic benefits as well – math (counting, matching), science (predicting sink or float, observing) and social skills (sharing, communicating) to name a few. To make a Halloween sensory bottle, first grab an empty bottle and fill it halfway with warm water. Then top it off with clear glue. Next, mix in some food coloring if you’d like a particular color. Now make it Halloween inspired by drawing a monster face or Jack-o-Lantern face. Or you can choose to add Halloween items inside like candy corn, plastic spider rings, black and orange sequins, glitter or beads. Once the top is sealed, shake it up and enjoy!
Glow in the Dark Pumpkins
What’s Halloween without some pumpkins? You can go the traditional route and pick some to place by your front door or you can take things to another level by making glow in the dark pumpkins! This just might intrigue kids who feel a bit too old to be into pumpkin painting but might enjoy this cool twist. All you need are pumpkins, glow in the dark paint and your imagination. When your masterpiece is complete, show it off to your trick-or-treaters!
