As a new mom (celebrating my second Mother’s Day) it is now more than ever apparent that Mother’s Day is more than cards and flowers — it’s a moment to pause and truly show our gratitude for everything moms do. Whether your mom is the sentimental type, a lover of experiences, or someone who enjoys the simple things, there are so many heartfelt ways to make her feel special.
Here are 10 thoughtful ways to show your appreciation this Mother’s Day:
1. Write Her a Letter from the Heart
A handwritten letter or card can mean more than any gift. Tell her what you love about her, share favorite memories, and thank her for all the little things she’s done over the years.
2. Cook Her Favorite Meal
Surprise her with breakfast in bed or a home-cooked dinner. Even if you’re not a pro in the kitchen, the effort will mean the world to her.
3. Plan a Quality Day Together
Time is one of the most precious gifts. Plan a day doing what she loves — whether that’s a picnic in the park, a spa day, hiking, or simply curling up on the couch with a movie marathon.
4. Create a Memory Book or Scrapbook
Gather photos, notes, and keepsakes to create a personalized scrapbook. You can even ask siblings or loved ones to contribute their favorite stories and memories.
5. Give Her a “Day Off”
Let Mom relax while you (or the whole family) take over the daily responsibilities. Cook meals, handle chores, and encourage her to take time for herself — guilt-free.
6. Send a Thoughtful Gift
It doesn’t have to be extravagant — think about what she genuinely enjoys. A book she’s been wanting, a cozy robe, her favorite candle, or a subscription to something she loves.
7. Share a Playlist or Video Montage
Make a playlist of songs that remind you of her or create a video montage with heartfelt clips from family and friends sharing what they love about her.
8. Support Her Passions
Whether it’s gardening, painting, baking, or yoga — give her a gift or experience that encourages her to do what she loves most.
9. Just Say It
Sometimes, the simplest gestures are the most powerful. Look her in the eyes and tell her, “I appreciate you. I love you. Thank you for everything.”
10. Keep the Appreciation Going
Mother’s Day is one day, but moms deserve to feel loved all year round. Little check-ins, kind words, and thoughtful gestures every now and then go a long way.
While my little girl is not even 2 years old, I see in her actions how much she loves and appreciates me and that is what matters most. At the end of the day, it’s not about perfection — it’s about presence, love, and sincerity. However you choose to celebrate, make sure your mom knows how much she means to you.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible moms — we see you, we appreciate you, and we love you.
