Winter is here, but there’s no snow in the forecast. Don’t let that stop you from enjoying the season. Bring the winter fun indoors while you make this adorable snow globe together!
Supplies:
- White Paper
- Colored Paper
- Crayons or markers
- Glue or tape
- Scissors
Step 1
Using a full sheet of white paper, fold in half so the paper is approximately 5.5 inches by 9 inches. Open the paper and cut along the fold seam. Set aside one of the pieces.
Step 2
Starting at the short end, accordion fold the half sheet. Ensure that all edges have a crisp fold. Fold this accordion in half and pinch the crease tight. Tape the end together to form a semi-circle. This will be your snow base.
Step 3
Next you’ll make the sky background for your globe. You can use colored paper in varying shades of blue to make the sky day or night. If you don’t have the correct shade you want, use crayons or makers to color the sky on white paper. Use the accordion snow base as a guide for the width of your sky and cut out a half circle.
Step 4
Time to decorate the background! Cut out or color houses and trees. Glue them to the sky background. Enhance the sky by adding glitter glue to make it shimmer or wisps of a cotton puff for clouds. It’s your artwork so let your creativity flow…er…snow!
Step 5
Tape the bottom of the sky background onto the long, straight edge of the accordion snow base. For added stability, add extra tape at the side edges to secure in place.
Step 6
Add dimension to the snow base with trees, snowmen, or even a woodland animal. Tape or glue each item to the accordion base to secure them in place. Cotton puffs could be added to the ground to make snowy hills.
Tip: coins can be used as a template for snow people.
When you are done, be sure to complement each other’s creations! You can extend your family time further by taking turns telling your family members an adventure story about your snow globe, play “I spy” with your scenes, or make a few more snow globes to give to neighbors and friends!
